We just emailed out a special announcement to our newsletter email group.... we wanted to send out this special edition newsletter to officially announce the new project that we hinted about earlier.

A non-profit group from St. Augustine, Florida, USA called ROSA LOVES, which was founded in 2006, has recently partnered with HWP/LEAP in an amazing project. The concept of what ROSA LOVES does is simple, 1) they find someone with a need and a story, 2) a tshirt is designed inspired by their story (with the actual story printed inside the shirt as well), 3) the shirt is sold until enough funds are raised to support the need, 4) the shirt is discontinued, but the process repeats with another story.

Currently, the stories being told span from raising money for a recycled bike program in their local St. Augustine town, to raising scholarship funds for students at a community center in Mexico, and helping pay for a critical heart surgery of a little boy in Iraq.

As many of you are familiar with, HWP/LEAP has been working with the Pondok Rahmat Children’s Home. This home is known as the Panti Asuhan ("house of care"), and was set up in 2005 after the 8.7 earthquake that devastated Nias, leaving many children orphaned or without the economic means to continue their education. In order to reduce the daily living costs and have more funds to spend on educational resources, LEAP is assisting the Children’s Home to set up a self-gardenening program, complete with education and supplies. Proceeds from the sale of the ROSA LOVES shirt will help to purchase these items.

We also hope to announce soon a special week of the 2010 season which we will try to fill up the charter with ROSA LOVES supporters who want to help not only by buying a tshirt, but also by volunteering in person at this very special project, as well as other HWP projects. STAY TUNED!
